about

Medd & Shaw is a group from the Southern Okanagan Valley in British Columbia, Canada. The group was initially formed by Dorian Medd and Bob Shaw, and for a time was simply a folk duo. They are influenced by Jim Croce, John Denver, Loggins and Messina, Neil Young, and of course, The Beatles. Medd and Shaw each write songs and sing and play supporting parts for each other.

After spending time playing in local clubs as a duo, they added other members to the group. Chris Meister, drummer, had played in several groups around the area; Jim Shand, a very inspired bass player who split his time between Medd & Shaw and other bands; Craig Fraser, keyboardist, the most accomplished and musically trained of the group; and Les Dietz, lead guitar.

The first recording sessions of the group were held in an Okanagan studio. A 45rpm vinyl record was released with a song written by Dorian Medd on one side, and on the flipside, a song written by Bob Shaw. This pressing was circulated across Western Canada and reached #3 on several radio station playlists.

As Medd & Shaw evolved and progressed, a more professional recording studio was sought in Vancouver. With the move came a more rich and polished sound. A genre of music, comparable to country rock, soft rock, or MOR/easy listening. Several more vinyl singles, an LP, & CD were subsequently released with favorable reaction.

Medd & Shaw followed the releases by performing at concerts, coffee houses, and on television programs as a duo, or full band, depending on the situation or requirements of the venue. Dorian Medd and Bob Shaw continue to write adult contemporary music.

"A great album- Hats off to Medd & Shaw!!
Take a chance on love and Jealous had me floored – the rich saxophone did that I guess. I’ll remember you as an album has a tinge of each – Bread, CSN and America, with their vibrant vocal harmony. Some tracks that I really enjoyed are Enchanting lady- so well structured, yet oh so smooth, Love is what we got and Babe I’ll always love you. Movie love affair was fantastic too."
~ Ricky Kej - Grammy Award winning Composer and Music Producer

"Beautifully produced, and performed, and great song writing! This new album by Medd & Shaw is destined to become a favored classic in adult contemporary music."
~ Laura Sullivan - Grammy Award winning Composer and Pianist

"Not since “America’s” Horse with No Name have we heard anything quite as refreshing as “Medd & Shaw”.
~ Ted Hayward, Music Director CJCJ Woodstock
